My Favourite Italian Music 2018

It seems like there are two distinct perceptions of Italian music in today's world. First, there is the fast and up-beat, folk music that non-Italians are most familiar with. Second, there is the old-school sound, from classics such as Gloria, Lacsciatemi Cantare, and Ti Amo, that my generation of Italians were brought up with. I can honestly say that many people are missing out, and should become more familiar with the modern world of Italian music. We can certainly all agree that the classics are great, so why stop there? There are so many great songs being released that many of us don't even know about!

In the last few years, I've taken more of an interest in current Italian music, and have slowly started building a library of my own favourite songs. 2017 and 2018 in particular, have brought some pretty awesome Italian hits, and I'm excited to share with you my top favourite songs that I've kept on repeat this year.

  1. Voglio Ballare Con Te (Baby K). This song has been at the top of my list for a very long time. It's one of those songs that immediately makes you want to dance. I think of this song, and it brings me back to being on a boat in Capri, sipping prosecco, and having a great time.

  2. D'estate Non Vale (Fred De Palma ft. Ana Mena). The beat of this song is everything. It's such an easy song to listen to, and it has a really cool almost reggaeton vibe to it.

  3. Nera (Irama). Summer in a song. Imagine listening to this on a beach, by the pool, or in an outdoor lounge.

  4. Da Zero A Cento (Baby K). This song literally means "From 0 to 100"- if this title isn't more fitting for this year, I don't know what is.

  5. Porto Cervo (Lazza). The essence of this song is very mainstream, and I think it belongs on Toronto Radio... someone get on that.

  6. Rollercoaster (Emis Killa). Driving with my windows down in the sun is how I usually enjoyed this. It's a very relaxed, easy to listen to, jam.

  7. Il Terrone Va Di Moda (Il Pagante). Plain and simple, if Italian music and Spanish music had a baby, it would be this song.

  8. Italiana (J-AX & Fedez). Another beach song! This takes me back to laying on a beach on the Amalfi Coast.

  9. Amore A Prima Insta (Shade). This song is a lot, that I'll admit, but at the same time, it's great. It'll get you pumped- on the treadmill, in the car, you name it.

  10. Ragazza Paradiso (Ermal Meta). This song is absolutely beautiful. It's one of those songs that completely captivates you, and makes you think your life is a romantic movie.

  11. Adios (Fred De Palma). To 2018.

My Italian playlists range from different genres, which makes it easy to find music that everyone can enjoy. I hope this post help's you all become more acquainted with some of Italy's most talented artists today, and allows you to celebrate an amazing culture in a different way. I can't wait to see what 2019 brings!

Saluti (cheers) to 2019, and fa la brava,

Juliana
